Man Killed in Semi Rear-E…

Marietta, GA (May 23, 2026) – A Cobb County man died early Friday, May 22, after a collision involving a stopped tractor-trailer on Interstate 75.

Police said the crash happened just before 1 a.m. on a bridge over North Marietta Parkway. Investigators noted that traffic had been backed up following an earlier crash that temporarily shut down all southbound lanes.

According to reports, one tractor-trailer remained stopped in the middle lanes as traffic resumed movement. A second tractor-trailer swerved to avoid the stopped truck and made contact while passing on the left. Moments later, a Volkswagen struck the rear of the stopped tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as a 47-year-old man from Marietta, was pronounced dead at the site of the collision. Both truck drivers stayed in the area and are cooperating with investigators.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been announced.

We extend our condolences to the family of the man who lost his life in this crash.

What Should Families Do After a Fatal Semi-Truck Crash in Marietta, GA?

After a fatal semi-truck crash in Marietta, families are left trying to understand what happened while also dealing with immediate legal and financial concerns. One of the first steps is obtaining official records, including the police report and any available documentation related to the vehicles involved.

These materials can help establish a timeline of events, identify the parties connected to the collision, and provide a clearer understanding of how the crash unfolded.

As families review this information, they may also encounter the added complexity that often comes with commercial truck accidents. Crashes involving multiple commercial vehicles can raise difficult questions about how each driver’s actions contributed to the sequence of events. Surviving relatives may also face unexpected expenses related to emergency medical care, funeral arrangements, and other financial obligations after a sudden loss.

In some cases, electronic data from commercial vehicles may also be examined during the investigation process. This information can include speed records, braking activity, and vehicle movement leading up to the collision. It is really important to preserve the evidence early, since some records may later become unavailable if they are not requested in time.

Given the complexity of commercial truck accident investigations, many families seek legal guidance to better understand their options moving forward. An attorney can explain how claims involving semi-trucks are typically handled under Georgia law, review available evidence, communicate with insurance carriers, and help identify what forms of compensation may be available based on the circumstances of the case.
