Man Killed After Fall From Roller Coaster at Six Flags in Cobb Co., GA

Cobb County, GA (October 13, 2026) – An Atlanta school employee was killed after falling from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon, October 12, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Several other people were also injured in the incident, which occurred shortly before 4 p.m.

Preliminary information gathered through witness and employee interviews indicated that the man was ejected from the ride, struck other patrons, and fell beneath the attraction, police said.

The incident occurred on Goliath, a large roller coaster at the amusement park. Witnesses described seeing the man come out of his seat and strike parts of the ride before falling to the ground.

Riders were later evacuated after the roller coaster stopped near the top of the track.

The Cobb County Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Georgia's Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, which oversees amusement ride safety, is also conducting an investigation.

Can Families Pursue a Wrongful Death Claim After an Amusement Park Accident in Georgia?

When a person dies in an amusement park accident, surviving family members may have legal options if negligence or unsafe conditions contributed to the death.

In Georgia, a wrongful death claim may arise when a fatal incident results from another party’s negligence, a safety failure, or a violation of applicable duties. An investigation can help determine whether the park operator, ride manufacturer, maintenance contractor, or another party may be responsible.

Amusement park incidents can involve complex safety issues. Investigators may examine ride design, restraints, inspection and maintenance records, employee training, and operating procedures. Surveillance footage, witness statements, photographs, and expert evaluations may help establish what happened. Families should avoid assuming the cause before the facts are established.

Under Georgia law, a wrongful death claim generally belongs to the surviving spouse, children, or parents, depending on who survives the deceased. If none are eligible, the estate’s administrator or executor may be able to bring a claim under specific statutory rules.

The wrongful death claim generally seeks the full value of the deceased person’s life as defined by law. The estate may also pursue a separate claim for certain expenses, such as medical bills and funeral costs, depending on the circumstances.

Preserving evidence early is important. Families may wish to keep relevant correspondence, photographs, travel records, medical documents, and witness information. An attorney can help identify additional records to request and determine whether evidence should be formally preserved during the investigation.

Georgia generally imposes a two-year statute of limitations on wrongful death claims, although exceptions may apply. Because an ongoing investigation does not automatically extend the filing deadline, families should review their legal options promptly.
