Cobb County, GA (March 28, 2026) – Authorities have identified a man who died following a hit-and-run crash on Wednesday night, March 25, in Cobb County.
Police said 53-year-old Jeffrey Ryder was involved in a collision around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Barclay Circle, near Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
Investigators report Ryder was traveling north on South Cobb Drive when a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Alberto Martinez attempted to make a left turn onto Barclay Circle. The turn led to a collision, and the force of the crash caused Ryder to be ejected from his vehicle.
Martinez allegedly fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Ryder was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities have charged Martinez with first-degree vehicular homicide, hit and run, and additional traffic offenses.
The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our condolences to the family of Jeffrey Ryder during this challenging time.
If a loved one is killed in a hit-and-run crash in Cobb County, the first step is to gather accurate information about the incident. This may include obtaining the crash report, speaking with law enforcement, and staying informed as authorities investigate and attempt to locate the driver. Having clear and confirmed details can help families begin to understand what happened.
Hit-and-run crashes can be especially complex because the driver leaves the scene, which may delay identification and accountability. Investigators may rely on witness statements, traffic or security camera footage, vehicle debris, and other physical evidence to identify the suspect.
In some cases, tips from the public can also play a role. This process can take time, and updates may be released as new information becomes available.
Families may also face immediate emotional and financial challenges, including funeral arrangements, medical bills, and other unexpected expenses. During this time, it may be helpful to focus on gathering important documents and understanding what support systems are available.
Insurance coverage may still apply even if the driver is not immediately found. Policies such as uninsured motorist coverage or other applicable benefits may help cover certain losses. If the driver is later identified, their insurance policy may also be reviewed.
Keeping organized records can help make things more manageable. Documents such as medical records, accident reports, bills, receipts, and communication with insurance companies can provide a clear timeline. It may also be helpful to keep notes about conversations and any updates from investigators.
Families may consider whether a wrongful death claim may be appropriate. This process can involve reviewing evidence, financial impacts, and the circumstances surrounding the crash. Each case is unique and depends on the specific facts involved.
