The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity or additional details about the vehicle involved.
Cobb County’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) unit is leading the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our sincere condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.
Pedestrian crashes on interstate highways are particularly dangerous due to high vehicle speeds and limited reaction time for drivers. In Cobb County, major corridors such as I-75 carry heavy commuter and commercial traffic throughout the day and night, increasing the risk of severe or fatal outcomes when pedestrians enter the roadway. Vehicles traveling at interstate speeds require long stopping distances, and even sudden braking or evasive maneuvers may not prevent a collision.
According to statewide traffic safety data, a significant portion of fatal pedestrian crashes in Georgia occur on or near high-speed roadways, especially during nighttime or early morning hours. Reduced visibility, glare from headlights, and driver fatigue can all contribute to these incidents.
In some cases, pedestrians may be attempting to cross lanes to reach a destination, responding to a disabled vehicle, or walking along the roadway due to limited alternative routes.
In Georgia, surviving family members of those killed in traffic collisions may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim when negligence is involved. These claims can help address funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering.
