A pedestrian injured in a crash may be able to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other losses if another party may be legally responsible.
Medical treatment can create substantial expenses after a serious pedestrian crash. Hospital care, diagnostic testing, medications, follow-up appointments, and rehabilitation may all contribute to the cost of recovery. Keeping medical records and bills together can help document the treatment received and the expenses associated with it.
Those medical needs may also affect the person's ability to work. Missed shifts, reduced hours, or an extended absence can lead to lost income. Pay stubs, employer records, work schedules, and other employment documents may help establish how the injury affected earnings.
Beyond medical and income losses, other expenses may arise during recovery. Transportation to medical appointments, prescription costs, household assistance, and other documented out-of-pocket expenses may be relevant when reviewing the overall financial effects of the injury.
Along with documenting these losses, evidence from the scene may help establish how the crash occurred. Photographs, witness accounts, available video, roadway conditions, and information about the vehicle may provide useful details when reviewing a potential claim.
With the circumstances and losses documented, insurance coverage can then be reviewed alongside the other records. Policy information, claim correspondence, medical bills, and other documentation may help clarify what coverage could apply and which expenses are being considered.
A personal injury lawyer can review the available evidence, medical records, insurance information, and financial losses to explain what compensation may be available. An attorney may also identify additional records that could be relevant to a potential claim.
